So I was reading a blog  by my brother Les today  (hes not my real brother just my spiritual one) and he sparked some interesting thoughts with his latest learn/teach post. You can read it here in order to be able to follow along with what I will be talking about.

I want to address the illusion of being in control of something. What brother Les hinted at when he was talking about people thinking they are in charge. Now most schools of teaching no matter the type will teach you that you have to maintain control or be in charge of the things in your life the people in your life etc. This is 180 degrees out from the reality that is and so they are attempting to have you live in an illusion that you can control those aspects in your life. They could not be further from the truth. The only real control you may or may not have is over yourself and your reactions to the stimuli that the rest of the world presents you with. Now here is a little secret they will never teach you in all those schools. The more you try to grasp and maintain control on the things outside of you the less control you can have over yourself and the more the outside world can control you. If you have any doubt about this then look at how people become stressed out or panic when they seem to loose control of the things around them compared to those that do not because they are more worried about controlling themselves. A great example would be our current president here in America. Look at how much he has aged and how much he has changed since he has lost control of the people etc.

So remember this when your life supposedly is falling apart and you seem to have lost control of everything. You never were in control you were just under the illusion that you were and the only thing you can control is how you react to what is happening and your thoughts. You can say well this is a great learning lesson in that I really do not control anything but myself or you can say this is terrible what have I done to deserve this. The later will get you no where and the prior will make it easier to deal with any situation and help you become a better person.
